My name is Ragnhildur Rún Breiðdal. I graduated with my B.Sc. in Biotechnology from Háskólinn á Akureyri in the spring of 2024. The reason I chose to study Biotechnology is because I have for years been fascinated by the potential to create sustainable solutions using natural, biologically-derived ingredients. One of my main interests when going into my studies has been exploring how various skin remedies can be made that rely on natural, biologically-derived ingredients.

For my final project, I collaborated with Ísponica on the project titled “Aquaculture, greenhouse production and aquaponics in Iceland’’ focusing on sustainable food production and economic opportunities.

Working on this project I gained a deeper knowledge on aquaponics systems and sustainable farming practices. This project has led me to explore how byproducts from Icelandic agriculture and the fish industry could be utilized to develop innovative and sustainable products.
