On April 15th as part of the Aquaponics Association’s Virtual Conference, we shared the story of Ísponica, a small-scale aquaponics company in rural northern Iceland. Ísponica was founded in 2021 with the goal of using aquaponics as a local way of producing year-round fresh vegetables (primarily microgreens and edible flowers). The company often partners with universities and other small producers to encourage student research projects. Aquaponics is key to strengthening domestic vegetable production in Iceland, especially since we already have many existing aquaculture facilities with nutrient-rich wastewater needing to be used!
